Tanzanian Classic Lodge Safari

Day 1 - After lunch in Arusha, depart for the Ngorongoro Highlands, passing through the southern Maasai steppes en route to Lake Manyara and the Rift Valley escarpment. Climb towards to the highlands passing through farmlands near Karatu, the traditional home of the Mbulu tribe. Dinner and overnight is at the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge.

Day 2 - After an early breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a spectacular day of game-viewing. The crater is home to over 40,000 herbivores such as wildebeest and zebra, as well as having the highest density of lions anywhere in Africa . The Ngorongoro crater is also the last remaining refuge for the few black rhinos remaining in Tanzania . Dinner and overnight is at the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge.

Day 3 - After breakfast depart for the Serengeti National Park arriving at the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon experience the majesty of the Serengeti Plains. Dinner and overnight is at the Serengeti Sopa Lodge or the Serengeti Serena Lodge. The lodge we choose depends on the time of year, as both lodges are located in separate areas of the Serengeti and have seasonal game-viewing.

Day 4 - Spent game-viewing in the Serengeti National Park with picnic lunch. The Serengeti is the largest National Park in East Africa covering over 14,000 sq kms. It is also home to the spectacular annual migration of over one million wildebeest from the north and west to the southern short grass plains to calve. Dinner and overnight is at the Serengeti Sopa Lodge or Serengeti Serena Lodge.

Day 5 - After breakfast depart with a picnic lunch for the Lake Manyara National Park , game-viewing en route and visiting the archaeological site of Olduvai Gorge . Nestled at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment, Manyara National Park is unique in that it is one of the few areas of groundwater forest. Many of the streams that feed the lake spring from the walls of the Rift Valley. Depart from Manyara to arrive at Naitolia Lodge in the Tarangire Conservation Area for dinner. Dinner and overnight will be at Naitolia Camp.

Day 6 - The rest of this day and the following morning are spent game-viewing within the Tarangire Conservation Area either on a walking safari or in specially equipped open land rovers. The Conservation Area is an area over 60,000 acres adjacent to Tarangire National Park and astride the wet season migration routes.
Late evening enjoy a night drive when it is possible to see nocturnal animals such as spring hares, African wildcats, genet cats and white tailed mongoose. Dinner and overnight is at Naitolia Camp.

Day 7 - Early this morning enjoy a walking safari or game view by vehicle before returning to the Naitolia for a large brunch. After brunch depart for Arusha.

The Kilimanjaro Climb

Day 1 - Depart Home Town

Day 2 - Tanzania
You will be met and transferred to the Moivaro Coffee Plantation Lodge. This newly opened lodge is set in the grounds of a large coffee estate and has spectacular views of Mt. Meru . You will spend the afternoon with your mountain guide preparing for your climb with a briefing for the ' Machame Route '.

Day 3 - Ascent of Kilimanjaro
Today you will be transferred to Machame Gate to begin your climb. Climb to Machame Hut, walking along depending on the weather conditions this can be a moderate to very demanding climb through forest then up to the overnight stop on the edge of the forest. (3,000 m)

Day 4 - The Shira Plateau
Rising early you cross a valley and a stream and then climb up a steep ridge for 3-4 hours. The path then drops into the river gorge before you climb more gently onto the moorland of the Shira Plateau, one of the most fascinating areas of the Mountain. (3,840 m)

Day 5 - Barranco
Today you will walk for 5-6 hours, enjoying sightings of the typical Kilimanjaro mountain vegetation (Senecios, Lobelia, Helichrysum) and rewarding views of the spectacular Barranco Valley . (3,950 m)

Day 6 - Barafu
From the Barranco Hut, walk across scree and ridges to Karanga (4,100m) with breathtaking views of the West Breach and the southern glacier. About 2 hours from Karanga you will come out on the Barafu path (part of the Mweka Trail). It is a further 1-1½ hours to Barafu Hut where you stay overnight in Mountain tents. (4,600 m)

Day 7 - Summit
You rise early in the morning and begin your climb to the summit by the light of the full moon. You pass through the gap between the Ratzel and Rebmann glaciers and continue to Uhuru peak (5,896 m) where you can watch the sunrise from the rooftop of Africa ! You then descend to Rau Camp via the Kidio Route for your overnight stay in Mountain tents. (3,100 m)

Day 8 - Decent of Kilimanjaro
Descend to the Kibololoni Gate and then continue by vehicle to the Moivaro Coffee Plantation Lodge. You may now relax, take a hot shower or a swim in the pool before a final dinner with the other members of your group where you may celebrate the achievement of conquering Mount Kilimanjaro .
On Day 9 you may continue on the optional safari extension, depart for home or combine to one of our other safaris & tours.

Day 9 - Lake Manyara
From Arusha you will be met and depart, with a picnic lunch, for Lake Manyara National Park and a short game drive. In the early evening continue up the Rift Valley escarpment to Kirurumu Tented Lodge to enjoy the commanding and panoramic views of Lake Manyara and the surrounding area.

Day 10 - Lake Manyara
Today you will have the option of ethno-botanical walks around Kirurumu or you can return to Manyara National Park for another game drive. Mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, cultural village walks, nature walks, are also available at a small additional charge.

Day 11 - Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast you will drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will continue to the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania 's 'secret garden' which contains a hidden world of teeming wildlife. Descend 2000 feet from the lush rain forest on the rim to the open savannah and the Lerai acacia woodland on the crater floor for an afternoon of game viewing. Return to the crater rim in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Day 12-14 - Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, drive to the Serengeti National Park, stopping en-route at Olduvai Gorge, the cradle of mankind to visit the small but interesting museum. The Serengeti, undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, is home to the highest density of game in Africa as well as being unequalled for its natural beauty and scientific value. Daily game-drives exploring the wide-open spaces of the Serengeti, visiting different habitats and following the ebb and flow of life in its seasonal movements.

Day 15 - Kilimanjaro/Depart
Today you will be driven to Seronera Airstrip in time to connect with the morning regional air flight to Kilimanjaro Airport and your onward flight home.

Day 1: Travel from Arusha and overnight at Lake Manyara Hotel. The hotel is situated on top of the Great Rift Valley escarpment with magnificent views of Manyara National Park and Lake Manyara . En-route to the hotel you will have an afternoon game drive in the Park.

Day 2: Travel by road to Lake Natron area. This is one of the most beautiful drives you will experience anywhere in the world. You will be surprised if we pass any other vehicles on this route. We will stop along the way for lunch and maybe converse with the local Masai who will be traveling by foot. Arrive in Natron and overnight at your private camp.

Day 3: The whole day will be spent exploring this unique remote area. Visit the Magnificent water Falls, Hike the mountain called Oldonyo Lengai, which means mountain of God in Masai. This is an active volcano and quite amazing views from the top. At the end of this wonderful day we head into the local Masai village called Engiaresero for a drink at the local bar. Overnight at your private camp.

Day 4: Visit the school in the village before departing for the Serengeti. We will now drive up the Rift Valley escarpment, through farm country and small village's en-route to the Serengeti. Overnight camping at Klein's Gate area.

Day 5, 6, 7: Private camping and game viewing in the Serengeti!

Day 8: Travel from the Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater. This is one of the most beautiful drives in all of Tanzania , leaving the flat planes and enters the highlands of the Crater area. Overnight at Crater Lodge.

Day 9: After a great breakfast, journey into the Crater for superb game viewing. In the afternoon we will drive back to Arusha, where you will travel to your next destination.
