Mali and Toureg Music Festival

 

Originally this colorful festival was only for the local Toureg Tribes living in the Desert. It was there annual event where they could share their music and stories. It became so popular that it has now turned into an international music festival. People from all over the world attend this magnificent event. But remember it only takes place once a year. The next festival is January 8-10. Join us for the festival and a great trip around Mali!

Travel Recap:

Day 1

On arrival in Bamako off your international flight you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel for a pre-trip briefing and overnight.
Overnight: HOTEL PLAZA or SIMILAR
Day 2 Following breakfast at the hotel you will be taken on a tour of Bamako before departing for Sevaré. Travel via Segou and San where you will stop for lunch and visit the local Mosque before continuing to Sevaré for dinner and overnight.
Overnight: HOTEL FLANDRE or SIMILAR [B, D]
Day 3 Travel from Sevaré to Timbuktu via Douentza. Stop for lunch at Tiboraghen, arriving in Timbuktu in the in time for dinner.
Overnight: TIMBUKTU HOTEL (TBD) [B, D]
Day 4 In the morning visit the local Mosques, museum, market and the old library. Return to Timbuktu for lunch before departing for Essakan - the place of the Toureg Music Festival.
Overnight: DESERT CAMPING [B, L, D]
Day 5 & 6 You will spend these two days discovering the different cultures and civilizations at the Toureg Music Festival.  The festival also includes artisans and the always amazing camel races.

Day 7 After breakfast, travel back to Timbuktu for lunch and a well deserved rest. Dinner will be included at your hotel. You will have the opportunity to discuss with one of the local residents the historical background of Timbuktu and the Toureg life in the desert.

Day 8 Travel by boat towards Mopti, stopping in the village of Niafounke - birthplace of Ali Farka Toure - the King of African Blues music. Lunch will be on board your boat with overnight in the village.
Overnight: NIAFOUNKE [B]
Day 9 Depart Niafounke and head in the direction of Konna.
Overnight: CAMPING RIVER'S EDGE [B, L, D]
Day 10 Travel by car from Konna to Mopti, arriving in time for a lunch and tour of the village.
Overnight: HOTEL KANAGA [B]
Day 11 Spend the morning exploring Mopti before continuing to Sangha.
Overnight: DOGON VILLAGES [B]
Day 12 Spend the day visiting the Dogon villages Banani Ireli, Tereli, Yahe and Amani. Return to Sangha for dinner and overnight.
Overnight: MAFIR DJENNE OR CAMP DJENNE [B]
Day 13 Depart Sangha for the beautiful city of Dejenné, stopping for lunch before continuing to Segou. Arrive in Segou where you will tour the village and visit the local potters.
Overnight: HOTEL INDEPENDENCE OR L'AUBERGE [B, L, D]
Day 14 Spend the day visiting Segou, including the Bogolan Shop, the Segou Coro and Old Segou. Continue to Bamako arriving in time for lunch. In Bamako you will visit the local museum, the Marche Rose and the hills of Koulouba before being transferred to the International airport for your departure. Day room provided today.
