Day 1
Arrive in the Capital City of Bamako.
Overnight: Plaza Hotel or Similar
Day 2
Transfer to the airport for your morning flight to Timbuktu, upon arrival in Historic Timbuktu you will be transferred to your hotel. After lunch you will tour some of the historic sites in Timbuktu.

Day 3 - 8
The next five days will be spent traveling west of Timbuktu deep into the Sahara Desert. We will visit Toureg Villages and encampments. This portion of our adventure will be hosted and guided by Mr. Salem Ould Elhadj. Salem is now in his seventies and is retired. He was a scholar and a teacher most of his career. Salem was hired by the government to go to these very remote villages to teach to the children. He is the only teacher to have taught in these areas. After working with Salem we have finally coaxed him out of retirement to lead us on this rare journey. In these five days we will visit six to eight of the villages.

Day 9
Today we bid the remote villages a heart felt good-bye and head back to Timbuktu. Upon arrival we will have a final dinner with Salem. He will answer any final questions we may have about our experiences of the past five days.

Day 10- 12
We depart Timbuktu and take a short drive to the Niger River. For the next two days and nights we will take a relaxing cruise on the River working our way down to Mopti. This is a private boat just for our travelers. The scenery is beautiful and the pace nice and slow!

Day 13
Arrive in Mopti, where we spend the day visiting historic sites and the markets.
Overnight: Hotel Kanaga
Day 14 - 15
These two days are spent visiting the historic Dogon country.
Overnight: Desert Camping [B, L, D]
Day 16
As we work our way south towards Bamako, we visit Djenne and Segou.
Overnight: Independence Hotel [B, L, D]
Day 17
Arrive Bamako. Today we will visit the museum and the market. Dinner at the Restaurant Santoro and transfer to the airport for your flight home. Day room use provided.
